The Optix series of spinng combos has received an upgrade for 2009. The reel is a 3 bearing, continuous anti-reverse reel with a double anodized aluminum spool. The rod is a lightweight, sensitive IM6 graphite with a durable graphite reel seat. The OP4070M, comes with an Optix 40 reel and a 7', 2 piece medium action rod.

My husband and I took this rod out to the 3 mile bridge in Pensacola for some speckled trout action. Instead I hooked a monster redfish that bent this rod double (I was sitting on the bow and the fish pulled the rod tip into the water and tried to take it under the boat). My hook failed not the rod. My husband then landed a 24 inch 5 lb redfish with this rod. I am very pleased with this rod. Can't wait to take it out again (maybe a nice little shark next time).

Gone out a few times with this rod and reel, and it works great. It was a gift from my aunt, but I'd probably buy the same one again. No need for a fancier system unless you're going fishing every day. To get someone started, there are a couple $7 plastic worm kits on amazon which are all that's needed. I'd recommend high quality line though.

A great rod and reel combo. I used mine for red fish and this set up was strong enough to handle 30lbs + fish yet sensitive enough to feel the lil ones. Only gripe is that the drag is very quite which is not a big deal but I like to hear the drag scream when I hook a monster. Unfortunately I lost this set up to the fish gods when a big one pulled it right over the side of the boat. As I watched it getting pulled into the abbess I knew I would be purchasing this same set up.
